LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Smooth skin, without the daily routine
Laser hair removal reduces unwanted hair over a series of sessions, so shaving, waxing and ingrown hairs become far less of a concern.
Overview
Laser hair removal uses concentrated light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The light converts to heat and damages the follicle, slowing future growth. Because hair grows in cycles, a series of sessions is needed. Most clients see a significant, long-lasting reduction, with occasional maintenance sessions afterward.
Session time
About 15 to 60 minutes, by area
Downtime
Minimal; mild redness for a few hours to a day
Sessions
Typically 6 to 8, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart
Results
Lasting reduction after a full series

Your visit
01
Your provider reviews your skin tone, hair color and history to confirm candidacy and settings. Shave the area beforehand, and avoid waxing, plucking and tanning for several weeks.
02
The area is cleansed, then the laser is passed over the skin with cooling for comfort. Each pulse feels like a quick snap. Small areas take minutes; larger areas up to an hour.
03
Mild redness and small bumps around follicles usually settle within hours to a day. Avoid sun, hot tubs and heavy exercise for 24 to 48 hours and use SPF daily.
Results
Treated hairs typically shed within one to three weeks after each session. Because only hair in its active growth phase responds, results build across the series, and many clients see a significant, long-lasting reduction after six to eight sessions. Remaining hair often grows back finer and lighter. Hormones and other factors can prompt some regrowth, so occasional maintenance sessions are common. Individual results vary.
Laser hair removal provides a long-lasting reduction rather than total, permanent removal. After a full series, many clients see most hair in the area stop growing, and what remains is often finer and lighter. Hormonal changes can stimulate new growth, so occasional maintenance sessions help keep results.
Most clients need six to eight sessions, spaced four to eight weeks apart depending on the area. The face often needs closer spacing and the body wider spacing. Hair grows in cycles, and only actively growing hair responds, which is why a series is required for lasting reduction.
Most clients describe each pulse as a quick snap, similar to a rubber band against the skin, followed by brief warmth. Cooling is used during treatment to keep you comfortable. Sensitivity varies by area, and sessions on small areas are over quickly.
Laser targets pigment in the hair, so it works best on dark hair. Light blond, gray, white and red hair typically respond poorly. Deeper skin tones can be treated with appropriate settings and technology. Your provider will assess your skin and hair at your consultation and set expectations.
Yes, with care. Treated skin should not be tanned or sunburned, and you will need to avoid direct sun and use SPF for several days after each session. Many Lake Mary clients start their series in fall or winter so they are smooth by summer.
